Rescheduled due to problems with BTR. Worry Begets More Worry The job of worry is to anticipate possible perils, to come up with ways to deal with them, and to rehearse what you will do if the danger does arise. The dilemma is that once you start to worry about your shrinking 401K or if you’ll have a job next month, worry begets more worry, setting into motion a vicious cycle of frightening thoughts and anxious responses—worrywarting—out of control worrying. Worrywarts get stuck in identifying danger as they immerse themselves in the dread associated with the threat, spinning out an endless loop of scary situations, paralyzing themselves by blowing everything out of proportion. Don’t try to stop worrying, advises Dr. Beverly Potter, author of The Worrywart’s Companion -21 Ways to Soothe Yourself and Worry Smart, (McGraw Hill, September 2008). Worry itself, is not good or bad, she says. Everyone worries. Worrying is a survival skill because it helps us to identify and prepare for dangers. The problem is that once started, worrying is difficult to control. Allowed to continue unchecked, chronic worry can evolve into panic attacks and, in extreme cases, agoraphobia, which is a paralyzing fear of having a panic attack, especially in public. It can be so severe that, in the worst cases, the sufferer can't leave home.

Worrying is a survival skill because it helps us to identify and prepare for dangers. The problem is that once started, worrying is difficult to control. The solution is to become a “smart worrier”. Smart worriers do the work of worry, then knowing that worry triggers anxiety, which triggers more worrying, which triggers more anxiety—around and around endlessly—smart worriers take active steps to soothe themselves to dispel the anxiety. In The Worrywart’s Companion, Dr. Potter explains how worry can hijack our emotional brain. Some of her suggestions to becoming a “smart worrier” range from evaluating the cost of the worry to exercise to avoiding caffeine, taking a warm bath, deep breathing, list-making and counting your blessings.

Never worry about anything. But in every situation let God know what you need in prayer and requests while giving thanks. (Philippians 4:6)
Death is a universal experience. No one can hope to escape it. It is only a matter of time till it comes to each one of us and those we love. Most death beds are peaceful when the time comes and few go out struggling. What, then, is it we fear in death that it should be for us a thing of grief and dread? Firstly, we fear the unknown. To quote Shakespeare, “For in that sleep of death what dreams may come-When we have shuffled off this mortal coil?” Secondly, we dread the separation from those we love. These are the things that make death terrible. How differently should we set out to cross the Threshold were our minds at rest on these two points? What I will talk about Will help you not have such fear.

When we fight against these transitions, we make our passage through them more difficult. In this interview, we will explore the four major gates of the heroine's journey. We will learn how to recognize the gates we must pass through, and learn practical tips that can help us navigate each transition.
